As the art museum of the University of
Chicago, the David and Alfred Smart
Museum of Art promotes the understanding
of the visual arts and their importance to
cultural and intellectual history through
direct experiences with original works of art
and through an interdisciplinary approach
to its collections, exhibitions, publications,
and programs. These activities support lifelong
learning among a range of audiences
including the university and the broader
community.

iCI is dedicated to enhancing the understanding
and appreciation of contemporary
art through traveling exhibitions and other
activities that reach a diverse national and
international audience. Collaborating
with a wide range of eminent curators,
iCI develops innovative traveling exhibitions,
accompanied by catalogues and other
educational materials, to introduce and document
challenging new work in all mediums
by younger as well as more established
artists from the United States and abroad.
